BEFORE BEING ELECTED TO THE SCOTTS VALLEY CITY COUNCIL IN 2004
¨ Scotts Valley Lions Club member and Past President ¨ 2002 Lion of the Year ¨ 2004 Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year ¨ 2003 Businessman of the Year – presented by the National Republican Congressional Committee’s Business Advisory Council. ¨ 1980 Certificate of Appreciation for Outstanding Citizenship and Activities Enhancing Community Betterment. ¨ Worked at stopping the County of Santa Cruz from relocating the dump site to Scotts Valley
WHILE ON CITY COUNCIL
¨ YOU ASKED FOR THE DREAM OF A TOWN CENTER AT SKYPARK TO BECOME REALITY ¨ I’m happy to say we are on our way. The City is in contract with a developer, the specific plan is complete and will be voted on in a few months, key properties have been purchased or secured and propane companies are securing new sites to relocate to.
¨ YOU WANTED TO SEE VACANT COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS OCCUPIED
¨ We had over 1,000,000 sq ft of unoccupied commercial space in Scotts Valley in 2004. Today we have cut that number in half and along the way created new jobs and more revenue for existing businesses and the city.
¨ YOU WANTED TO SEE REAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN OUR CITY
¨ Again we delivered. In 2004 we were on our third year of declining sales tax revenue in our city but no more, in just 2 years we have turned that around and we are in our third year of increased sales tax revenue. These revenues are helping to keep our police on the streets and our streets in good repair while planning for the future.
¨ YOU WERE CONCERNED ABOUT OUR WATER SUPPLY AND OUR ENVIRONMENT
¨ Once again we made good on addressing these concerns. As Mayor I worked on and passed our Green Building ordinance which goes a long way in safeguarding our environment and working to reduce the amount of water use in existing buildings as well as new construction. Recycled water use is at an all time high further reducing potable water use. Scotts Valley is also home to the first leed green commercial building in the county.
